QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience or training in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
As of November 14, 1994 employees must possess the appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide supervision, guidance, support, and limited administration to a group of HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics in the performance of their journeyman level job assignments.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Maintenance Supervisor or agency official of higher grade.


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Line over HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics, Apprentices, and related job classes.


JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic by presence of full supervisory duties.


EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Assigns and inspects the work of journeyman HVAC Mechanics, HVAC Mechanic Assistants and Apprentices.

Oversees the installation, repair, alteration, maintenance, and control of refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and cooling systems.

Oversees the installation, diagnosis, repair, and adjustment on all control meter instruments involved in large areas or equipment heating and cooling.

Recommends changes in heating, cooling, and general refrigeration equipment and its usage.

Prepares cost estimates of jobs according to labor and material requirements.

Initiates and conducts subordinates' training.

Orders supplies.

Prepares layout for the installation or renovation on heating, ventilating, and refrigeration units.

Updates and maintains records on all projects and control systems.

Reads and interprets blueprints and schematics.
