The Manufacturing Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the production team, ensuring that manufacturing processes run efficiently, safely, and according to company standards. This role involves overseeing a team of operators, providing guidance, support, and training while ensuring high-quality output, adherence to safety protocols, and meeting production goals. The Manufacturing Team Leader works closely with other departments to optimize workflows and ensure the timely delivery of products.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Oversight & Leadership:
Lead and motivate a team of production workers to achieve performance goals, safety standards, and quality metrics.
Provide daily direction and support to the team, ensuring effective communication and resolving any conflicts or challenges that arise.
Monitor team performance and provide constructive feedback, including conducting regular performance reviews.
Production:
Ensure that production goals, including quantity, quality, and deadlines, are met.
Coordinate production schedules and ensure that resources, materials, and equipment are available to meet production targets.
Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, downtime, and defect rates.
Quality Control & Safety:
Enforce adherence to quality standards and ensure that all products are manufactured in compliance with industry regulations and company specifications.
Implement and promote safety programs and initiatives, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
Conduct regular safety inspections and address any unsafe working conditions.
Process Improvement:
Identify and suggest improvements in manufacturing processes, production methods, and workflows to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Understand what an improvement is related to KPI’s, ergonomics and /or Safety
Collaborate with engineering or maintenance teams to resolve operational issues or equipment malfunctions.
Assist in the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives (Lean Manufacturing/7 wastes or SPC and basic Six Sigma)
Training & Development:
Onboard new team members and provide ongoing training on equipment, safety protocols, and best manufacturing practices.
Foster a culture of learning and development by encouraging skill-building and cross-training among team members.
Identify skill gaps and recommend training or development opportunities to enhance team performance.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate production records, including work orders, inventory logs, and quality checks.
Report production data and performance metrics to the Production Manager or other senior management.
Document and investigate any quality or safety incidents and take corrective actions as needed.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments (e.g., Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance) to address any production challenges and optimize overall performance.
Participate in regular team meetings to review production goals, challenges, and solutions.
Foster positive relationships with other teams, supporting a collaborative and cohesive work environment.
QualificationsQualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required;
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, some experience on leading teams desired.
Experience in managing a team, production scheduling, or process improvement is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
Leadership and team management skills.
Communication and interpersonal skills.
Problem-solving abilities and focus on continuous improvement.
Knowledge of safety protocols and quality standards.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
Organizational and time management skills.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, which may involve exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.
May require standing for extended periods and lifting up to [X] lbs.
Flexible working hours or shift work may be required, depending on the production schedule.
