About the Role
As a Cloud Automation Engineer you will focus on automation enablement, supporting the development, evaluation, and implementation of cloud-based automation frameworks. This role will streamline data processing, file delivery, and tracking across internal teams and external partners. The ideal candidate has proven Python skills, experience working with automation tools, and is eager to grow their expertise in cloud-based utilities like Azure Data Factory, Databricks Workflows, and serverless compute.

Responsibilities

Automation Enablement & Process Development

  • Evaluate and vet automation tools and frameworks, providing recommendations based on technical feasibility and business needs.
  • Develop and maintain Python scripts that enable automated file delivery, processing, and tracking.
  • Build replicable automation frameworks, ensuring solutions can be easily extended to future processes and projects.
  • Leverage cloud-based utilities such as Azure Function Apps, Databricks Workflows, and Airflow to create scalable automation solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Cloud Engineering team to align automation processes with broader cloud strategy.

Project Collaboration

  • Work closely with senior data scientists to understand project requirements and contribute to automation and reporting solutions.
  • Participate in regular team check-ins and project updates to stay aligned on priorities and track progress.
  • Assist with gathering and documenting business requirements from internal teams, translating those into clear technical tasks.
  • Contribute to team documentation, helping to build how-to guides, process docs, and troubleshooting resources for future users.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and 1-2 years of relevant work experience, OR bachelor’s degree and 3-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven proficiency in Python, particularly for automation and data processing.
  • Intermediate experience with automation frameworks such as Airflow, Prefect, or similar.
  • Experience working with cloud-based data solutions (Azure preferred) and familiarity with tools like Azure Data Factory, Databricks Workflows, and Function Apps.
  • Demonstrated ability to take vague requirements and turn them into project specifications, collaborating with stakeholders to define clear deliverables.
  • Experience working with data wrangling/cleansing techniques for structured and semi-structured data (CSV, JSON, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to document work clearly and manage assigned tasks independently.
  • Experience with dashboarding or reporting tools (Power BI, Looker, or similar) is a plus, but not required.
