The Opportunity
In this role, you will have the opportunity to function as a technical specialist and/or supervisor for energy and microgrid projects for resiliency, redundancy, and reliability. You may have the opportunity to supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity or serve as a technical specialist providing knowledge and expertise.
As a designer, you will perform the following:
- Evaluate and assess the feasibility of the implementation of large-scale energy project opportunities. Provide engineering and technical analysis for microgrid solutions, system requirements, and implementation of complex systems inclusive of energy sources such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, diesel/natural gas generators and other alternative energy generation systems required to meet project’s requirements
- Produce design drawings, control system specifications, and design analysis documents
- Develop sequence of operations to achieve various dispatch modes, including grid-connected and island-mode
- Develop input/output (I/O) list for microgrid control system inclusive of points required to achieve various dispatch modes, general monitoring/control points for proper maintenance and functionality of the system
- Develop cost estimates and materials list
- Coordinate with BIM/CAD team for drawing production, utilizing Bluebeam for drawing markups
- Collaborate with large project teams and client stakeholders (including high-ranking military officials) on conceptual designs, design reviews, etc.
- Participate in interconnection analysis with utilities: (i) Develop application, (ii) Perform interconnection analysis and studies, (iii) Lead/participate in technical discussion with utility companies throughout the interconnection process
- Perform fieldwork, both internationally and domestically, and write assessment reports
As a project lead, you will perform the following:
- Review/mentor lower-level engineering work or assignments for accuracy, clarity and coordination
- Brief client stakeholders on technical aspects of energy and microgrids throughout project development and execution
- Manage assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements as well as establish work plan for projects
Other opportunities you may have:
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating quality/engineering standards
- Provide support to business development or pursuit activities
- Independently investigate and learn about new microgrid software, equipment, vendors, and related technologies as well as attend related conferences

You will be assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Thus, the candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
The following are preferred qualifications/experience:

Mission critical system/microgrid controls experience

Microgrid design and interconnectivity experience, including the likes of primary/backup diesel and natural gas generators, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, solar PV, wind, BESS, fuel cells and other distributed energy resources (DERs)

Experience designing microgrids to IEEE 1547-2018 and IEEE 2030.7-2017 standards

Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC)
