Cloud Systems Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Cloud Systems Engineer to support the ongoing operation and enhancement of our critical departmental and enterprise systems. Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, this role demands a hands-on contributor who excels in a dynamic environment and is enthusiastic about tackling new technical challenges.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure timely and accurate response to user requests, maintaining high availability and reliability of systems.
• Deploy and maintain systems from hardware to operating system level, encompassing Linux and other Unix variants.
• Execute traditional Unix administration tasks proficiently.
• Provide support for Development and Release Engineering environments, as well as enterprise SAN and VMware environments.
• Develop and maintain scripts/utilities for process automation.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical field.
• 2-4 years of experience administering UNIX systems, including installations and upgrades.
• Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Perl) for automation.
• Strong knowledge of standard UNIX subsystems such as printing, Sendmail, DNS, and NFS.
• Hands-on experience with multiple Unix/Linux variants.
• Experience in software development environments with various Unix/Linux variants.
• Familiarity with enterprise backup solutions.
• Ability to work occasional weekends/evenings for critical system upgrades or problem resolution.

 

Desirable:

• Experience with cloud computing platforms (IaC, Microsoft Azure, AWS).
• Knowledge of DevOps principles and frameworks.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of network peering/VPC, Cloud-to-Cloud, On-prem-to-cloud connectivity.
• Hands-on experience with SAN storage and VMware environments.
• Professional certifications in relevant technologies.

Additional Skills:

• Enthusiastic and rapid technical learner.
• Proficiency in Python, Ansible, or Bash scripting.
• Familiarity with CICD pipeline processes and tools.
• Experience in designing and implementing cloud connectivity.
• General knowledge of Cloud Provider Services such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or PCF.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
