About the Role
The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks 1 Temporary Project Assistants (3 months with possibility of extension) to support its democracy development programs in Southern and East Africa (SEA). This position will work with members of the Ethiopia, Mozambique and Uganda team on the planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of democracy support programs with elections, political parties, civic organizations, and legislatures. The position will be based in Washington, DC.
Your Purpose and Impact:
- Assist the SEA team in organizing and implementing democracy development programs
- Collect and distribute to the SEA team foreign and domestic newspaper, magazine, or journal clippings pertaining to regional developments and affairs
- Attend meetings and seminars on SEA affairs and prepare written presentations to team members
- Conduct special projects as needed
- Provide logistical and administrative support to the SEA team members
- Assist with administrative duties such as filing, faxing, copying and mailings
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with coursework in political science, international relations, regional studies or additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis
- Fluency in a foreign language and/or technical knowledge specific to the needs of the team highly desired
- Knowledge of, experience and interest in the region
- Strong attention to detail with experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
- Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
- Experience with event planning and managing logistics is strongly desired
- Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired
