About the role

Constructs substations , wood, and masonry buildings; repairs , maintains , and rebuilds dams, gates , canals, penstocks, and powerhouse structures throughout the System. Performs work under supervision.

Starting Rate of Pay: $40.33 per hour

Regular Duties:

  • Performs rough and finished carpentry

  • Builds complete concrete structures performing excavation, form work, installation of reinforcing, pouring and finishing concrete. Repairs concrete structures using poured concrete or Gunite.

  • Builds masonry structures with either blocks or bricks .

  • Builds wood structures and buildings .

  • Fabricates and installs steel structures ,

  • Performs rigging and erects staging,

  • Does acetylene metal burning and non-certified welding .

  • Installs culverts and does grading

  • Installs ducts , conduits , grounding mats , air break switches and similar types of electrical equipment.

  • Does interior finish painting and exterior painting of equipment and structures .

  • Demolishes structures and buildings

  • Operates automotive and power-driven equipment and tools

Infrequent Duties :

  • Assists Electricians and Mechanics

  • Removes and sets flashboards

  • Plows snow

  • Performs the duties of lower-rated jobs in the job progression

Tools and instruments used:

Carpenters masons, concrete workers pipe fitters, and electricians ' hand and power tools , winches , compressors, air wrenches , burning torches, pneumatic hammers and paving breakers , chain saws , and welding machines .

Normal - Working Foreman - Construction

Infrequent - Engineer, Foreman Construction, Working Foreman - Electrician, Working Foreman Mechanic

Education:

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Preferred, vocational/technical training related construction trades certification.

Required Skills:

Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity and the ability to: communicate effectively and follow instructions; perform calculations using fractions and decimals; climb and work on elevated structures; use hand and power tools; learn blueprint reading and the operation of a transit.

Successful completion of on the job training of a System Construction Mechanic 1 .11 which normally takes

18 months or equivalent experience in the construction field.

Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicles License.

Prior experience in welding operation of heavy equipment (backhoe, bulldoze c, front end loader, dump truck), preferred.
