Location:  Duval Regional Juvenile Detention Center, 1241 East 8th Street, Jacksonville, FL  32206

Starting Salary $2,111.14 Bi-Weekly (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher.)

DESCRIPTION:

This is managerial work planning, supervising, or coordinating activities of a social service or community outreach program. Incumbents manage the program or organization's budget and policies regarding participant involvement, program requirements, and benefits. Work may involve managing an organization of social workers, counselors, or probation officers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Detention Center Superintendent position is critical to the operations of the facility.  Additionally, the position is responsible for the operation of the facility, ensuring the safe and secure custody of all assigned youth. This position has the following major duties and responsibilities:

Responsible for:

The day-to-day operation of the facility, including hiring, management and supervision of ail uniformed officers.

Coordinating and ensuring compliance with Department of Juvenile Justice mandated training and certification of direct care employees.

Supervising Juvenile Justice Detention Officers Supervisors and ensuring staffing ratio is maintained in accordance with policy and procedure.

Conducting investigations relative to abuse/neglect and violation of Standards of Conduct by subordinate staff.

All youth services, rights, programming, property, visitation, clothing, medical, mental health, and education.

Reviewing all reports and logs within the facility.

Assists the Superintendent in complying with Quality Assurance Standards.

Ensures staff compliance with Department of Juvenile Justice rules, regulations, Detention Services Manual, Facility.

Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance Standards.

Reviews reports, log books, and JJIS data daily.

Supervises the youth transportation services for the facility. Ensures the timely and efficient movement of youth to and from court and other facility programs.

Serves as the population control officer for the facility. Responsible for the proper and legal admission and release of all youth.

This position must comply with the requirements set forth in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, Prompt Payment Compliance Law.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of practices used in caring for youth.

Knowledge of growth and development theories pertaining to youth.

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Ability to develop various reports, records, and correspondence.     

Ability to develop, implement, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct program activities.

Ability to manage the housekeeping and administrative details related to operations of the facility.

Skill to use Microsoft software.
