At Okta, we’re building the future of secure, enterprise-grade AI. We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to join our global AI Engineering team and play a key role in designing both applied AI solutions and the agentic AI platforms that power them.

This is a senior individual contributor role for a hands-on engineer who can set technical direction, mentor others, and partner closely with our India-based counterparts as part of one global team.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a technical leader in the US, driving architecture, design, and delivery of AI solutions and platforms.

• Collaborate with India-based peers to ensure globally aligned designs, shared roadmaps, and scalable architectures.

• Build and scale the Agentic AI platform — services for agent orchestration, lifecycle management, observability, and guardrails.

• Deliver applied AI solutions that transform employee and customer experiences through LLMs, RAG pipelines, and generative AI.

• Mentor engineers, raising the bar on technical craftsmanship and solution quality.

• Partner with Security, Data, and Infrastructure teams to ensure AI adoption is secure, reliable, and enterprise-ready.

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years in software engineering, with 4+ years in AI/ML or intelligent automation.

• Expertise with LLMs, agent frameworks, vector search, and RAG pipelines.

• Strong background in distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).

• Proven ability to influence technical direction across global teams and lead architecture decisions.

• Experience mentoring engineers and elevating team-wide practices.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across time zones and cultures.

The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $217,000—$325,000 USD

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$194,000—$290,000 USD
