What you'll do:

Manages and facilitates patient and procedure flow through the OR and ensures the provision of high-quality patient care on a day-to-day basis. Monitors the daily OR schedule, expediting procedures as necessary, communicating changes/needs to other departments. Monitors the daily assignments of the OR staff.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include, but are not limited to)


Monitors patient flow through the OR and anticipate staffing needs.
Assumes responsibility for daily operations of the OR for assigned shift.
Complete daily staff assignments one day in advance and post in OR
Approves staff leaving prior to end of assigned shift after consulting with leadership
Facilitates/expedites OR schedule to keep cases on time as much as possible.
Monitors any changes in the OR schedule, e.g., delays, starting early. Communicates changes to OR staff and leadership
Moves following procedures to an earlier time if able.
Assists leadership with ancillary audits, projections or other duties as designated
Facilitates process of patient management in the surgical center.
Collaborates with the front office staff on intake process as needed.
Plans and prepares for interoperative nursing care of the patient.
Gathers equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
Able to create and maintains multiple sterile fields/observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis
Functions in the role of Scrub and Circulating nurse.
Performs sponge, sharps and instrument counts as required.
Administers medications and solutions as prescribed.
Position and prepare patient on operating table
Monitors and controls the environment. Adheres to safety standards and precautions
Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
Participates in maintaining and assuring proper functioning of equipment and sterilizing procedures.
Performs in emergency situations.
Evaluates readiness for patient discharge, and collaborates with the anesthesiologist in the discharge process.
Reports any potential or actual adverse event as appropriate.
Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians.

QualificationsWho you are:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years of recent operating room nursing preferred.

KNOWLEDGE:


Familiarity with HIPAA, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies
Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette
Understanding of electronic medical record systems


QUALIFICATIONS:


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate professionally (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone)
Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties
Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts
Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task

CERTIFICATE / LICENSE: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
