Executive Director, Beyond Barnard

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, Community Engagement and Lifelong Success, the Executive Director manages Beyond Barnard’s Senior Staff; provides oversight on day-to-day operations and functions of Beyond Barnard; and designs and implements strategy and office-wide initiatives. The Executive Director has oversight of Beyond Barnard and ensures that the office executes on its programming, advising, and resources in a manner that aligns with the office’s mission, vision, and values.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Vice President, Community Engagement and Lifelong Success, set strategic priorities for Beyond Barnard; develop and supervise initiatives in all of Beyond Barnard’s areas of practice, including career advising and resources, national and international fellowships, internships and internship programs, support for students in campus roles, program evaluation, employer and stakeholder relations, partnerships, and communications.

  • Manage the Directors of Beyond Barnard’s functional areas; lead regular meetings with Beyond Barnard’s Senior Staff.

  • Ensure that Beyond Barnard’s offerings align with the strategic plan of the Division and the  College, with Barnard’s curriculum, and with best practices in higher education. Initiate, develop, and implement career development activities for students and graduates; collaborate with cross-campus stakeholders to support institution-wide initiatives; and set metrics to measure effectiveness of Beyond Barnard activities.

  • Set team-wide expectations around individual advising; coach staff on advising and presentation best practices; provide one-on-one advising support to students and alumnae in career identification and internship/job search strategies, management of on-campus employment, exploration of — and application to — graduate and professional school programs; pursuit of competitive national and international fellowships, grants and research opportunities; development of relationships with alumnae, potential employers and internship providers; and related areas of need as appropriate.

  • Foster deep relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumnae, parents, employers, and other stakeholders through a strategic set of regular engagements and touch-points.

  • Present at and lead a range of workshops, events, and programs that advance Beyond Barnard’s mission.

  • Represent Beyond Barnard at internal and externalevents, committees, and presentations.

  • Coordinate Beyond Barnard’s major campus-wide events and series (Opportunities Conferences, speaker series, special events involving visiting guests, etc.)

  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, alumnae, parents, students, employers, and other stakeholder groups to ensure that the programs and services provided by Beyond Barnard address student and alumnae needs; solicit all appropriate stakeholder involvement in identifying opportunities to bridge the academic development that takes place in the classroom with co-curricular (internships, fellowships, research, jobs, etc.) and postgraduate (career and graduate school) opportunities.

  •  Collaborate with cross-campus partners to create and advance an integrated vision of post graduate success for the College.

  •  Oversee implementation of programs that will attract volunteers ( alumnae, parents, and other groups). In collaboration with the Vice President of Community Engagement and Lifelong Success, strategize obtaining and developing the financial support of donors.

  • Provide effective feedback and performance management guidance for staff; oversee professional development opportunities and training best practices for staff.

  • Develop, propose and manage yearly operational and staff budget based on initiatives in collaboration with the Vice President, Community Engagement and Lifelong Success.

  • Evaluate and implement use of technological improvements including relational database and web products for job listings and career-related information. Assess on­line and print resources to provide most current and comprehensive information.

  • Oversee coordination of staff hybrid schedule and office sharing.

  • Other duties as required.
