About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our team and play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care across 5+ orthodontic practices in Brooklyn and Queens.
Hourly rates start at $25 per hour. Candidates with meaningful experience can earn higher compensation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert chairside assistance during complex orthodontic procedures, including braces placement, arch wire adjustments, aligner fittings, and appliance removals.
- Mentor and train junior orthodontic assistants, ensuring adherence to best practices in orthodontic care, infection control, and workflow efficiency.
- Take and process high-quality dental radiographs (X-rays), CBCT scans, and digital impressions using advanced imaging systems.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, appliance care, and post-treatment instructions, ensuring compliance for successful orthodontic outcomes.
- Manage and maintain orthodontic instruments, sterilization protocols, and equipment functionality to optimize clinical efficiency.
- Oversee and assist with fabrication and adjustment of retainers, space maintainers, and other orthodontic appliances.
- Collaborate with orthodontists, treatment coordinators, and front office staff to ensure seamless patient scheduling and treatment flow.
- Handle complex patient cases and troubleshooting appliance issues, ensuring timely resolution and patient satisfaction.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, charting treatment progress and tracking appliance usage.
- Stay up to date on advancements in orthodontic techniques, clear aligner technology, and digital workflow solutions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as an Orthodontic Dental Assistant in a high-volume practice.
- Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA) or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credentials from an accredited program.
- X-ray and CPR certification required.
- Proficiency in digital imaging, CBCT scans, intraoral scanners, and orthodontic software.
- Strong expertise in orthodontic procedures, including braces, aligners, space maintainers, and retainers.
- Proven ability to mentor, train, and lead junior team members.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Excellent communication skills with a patient-first approach.
- Commitment to maintaining infection control, sterilization protocols, and HIPAA compliance.
