About the role

Department Overview:

PBS Wisconsin seeks a student who will assist in the production of television and digital content for Wisconsin Life, a multi-platform project of PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio. The project celebrates what makes Wisconsin unique through the stories of its people. Training will be provided.

The ideal candidate seeks a career in broadcasting, journalism, marketing or communications and possesses good writing ability and strong interpersonal skills. The position works collaboratively with PBS Wisconsin production staff and reports to the Wisconsin Life Series Producer and Local Series Unit Executive Producer.

Qualifications:

Broadcast Journalism, Marketing or Communications majors preferred but not mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Demonstrated writing skills, familiarity with A.P. style
- Knowledge of WordPress
- Knowledge of MailChimp or similar newsletter software
- Knowledge of Adobe software, including Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Duties will include but not be restricted to:
1. Contribute content to project’s social media sites by posting daily content and working to develop audience engagement.
2. Write, proof, and post digital text, upload videos and other content to project and station websites.
3. Write and maintain the Wisconsin Life bi-weekly newsletter.
4. Serve as a liaison between the production team and viewers. Call people featured in stories to verify information and inform them of scheduled airdates.
5. Maintain and update project’s content database and electronic archives of story information.
6. Research and pitch story ideas, field produce video segments throughout the state for the Wisconsin Life project.
7. Assist producers with research, transcribe interviews and provide production support to project team during on-location video shoots, as availability allows, throughout Wisconsin.
8. Assist in various post-production tasks.
9. Other related responsibilities, as assigned by Executive Producer of Local Series Unit and the Series Producer of Wisconsin Life.
