Superintendent - Production (Power & Water)

SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for supervising plant operations to ensure efficient production of quality products, including safety and environmental compliance, planning and organizing work activity, directing personnel, and maintenance coordination.  The superintendent will also be responsible for the control of all documents including Operations and Maintenance Manuals, Instruction Books, P&ID’s, Elementary Diagrams, site layouts, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
• Ensures clearly defined, roles and responsibilities are communicated and reviewed annually to Supervisors for environmental, health & safety.
• Oversees and ensures safety teams are promoting and engaging in safety process within specific unit responsibilities and within appropriate training.
• Works with HSE department to ensure proper safety training materials are appropriate to hazards and tasks.
• Ensures annual review of hazard assessments are conducted by qualified and trained operations personnel.
• Promote, lead, and support Westlake’s PACE requirements and Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) activities as part of the department team.
• Supervise and direct daily plant operations to efficiently produce quality products at specified rates and in compliance with environmental and OSHA regulations.
• Aggressively promote safety programs and housekeeping standards to minimize injuries.
• Ensure that all operational areas are maintained to achieve efficient and safe operation at minimum cost.  This will include the weekly setting of maintenance priorities and a daily review of maintenance activities to stay current on unit requirements.
• Monitor cost of operations to stay within budget and to identify improvement opportunities.
• Ensure employee performance appraisal program, training programs and corrective disciplinary procedures are maintained to achieve compliance with established goals and standards of operations, work attendance, environmental compliance, safety and injury prevention.
• Monitors, approves within specific levels and recommends approval of plant maintenance requirements to achieve reliable equipment operation at minimum cost.
• Prepares monthly and other reports required to keep management informed on performance of operation, improvements made or needed and personnel issues.
• Assist in timely preparation of capital and maintenance budgets to represent realistic requirements.
• Development, implementation, and recording of plant operating data, and review regularly to evaluate plant operation and performance.
• Assist in the training and development of plant personnel.
• Diagnose and resolve plant systems operation data

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred
• Minimum of 5 years operations or related experience in a chemical manufacturing facility, with previous mechanical or power generation operating experience preferred; experience in gas and/or steam turbines
• Proven leadership ability
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, climb, squat and bend.  Must be able to use hands to reach, grasp, touch, handle, or feel.  The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is high.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which requires usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.
