Agricultural Resource Navigator II - Limited Service

Overview

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets is looking for a skilled navigator to help farmers and food producers find and leverage financial and technical assistance resources. This position will work directly with businesses and organizations in Vermont's food system, helping them assess needs and connecting them with appropriate resources to help advance their organizational goals. This position will develop and maintain a comprehensive directory of financial and technical assistance resources and will use a variety of communication strategies to promote these resources - from website development and social media, to one-on-one meetings and large group presentations. Special attention will be paid to engaging with marginalized and under-served communities. This position will work closely with food and agriculture support organizations across the region, helping strengthen connections between these organizations through enhanced collaboration and information sharing. 

 

Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following areas will be helpful in this role:    

• Communications and outreach, especially to diverse stakeholders 
• Resource mapping and visualization 
• Cross-organizational collaboration 
• Program evaluation and reporting  
• Farming and/or food production

This position is based in Montpelier, VT. Telework options are available to employees in the Agricultural Development Division.    

 

This classified limited service position is funded by a USDA grant for two years and may be extended.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of settings, including open floorplan office, producer and market sites, and public events, project sites and potential hearing settings. Substantial in-state, regional, and out-of-state travel is involved for which private reliable means of transportation must be available. Routine public contact and communication, both verbally and in writing, is expected. An incumbent must coordinate activities with other departmental staff, the Secretary of the Agency and Deputy Secretary, and interact considerably with agricultural and land development business people, interest groups and the general public. Certain required activities will occur outside of normal office hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in agriculture, marketing, environmental conversation, communications, land use planning or another relevant field.

OR

At least two (2) years of experience as an Agriculture Development Specialist I in Vermont State service.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of Lean White Belt training
Experience assisting in the annualized management of grant and program funding.
