Machine Learning Engineering Manager, Identity ML Platform

The Role

As part of the Machine Learning Engineering Identity team, you will play a critical role in leveraging machine learning to protect the integrity of identities, accounts, and relationships within Cash’s ecosystem. Our primary mission is to fortify our first line of defense against bad actors attempting to bypass Identity Verification (IDV) controls while enhancing our confidence in the authenticity of both new and existing customers. Beyond mitigating inauthentic identities and accounts, we also focus on ensuring teen safety, strengthening trust in teen and parent relationships for sponsorships, and verifying the authenticity of businesses. Additionally, we strive to ensure that customers engage in business activities only within their designated business accounts, maintaining a clear distinction between personal and commercial use. By applying machine learning at scale, we aim to create a safer, more trustworthy financial ecosystem where all users—regardless of background or financial history—can securely access the services they need.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for technical architecture, ensuring collaboration across a multitude of disciplines, and providing coaching and mentorship to your team and peers. You will drive the team's vision and roadmap alongside product management, designers, and the Cash App leadership team.

You Will:

• Lead and participate in critical technical, design, strategy and product discussions with leaders across the organization and company
• Work with cross-functional partners to build impactful products and platform features
• Build a world-class team by hiring exceptional talent, coaching and developing engineers, cultivating pragmatic engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical expertise to constantly raise the bar
• Define your team’s vision and roadmap by thoroughly understanding your customers’ needs
• Creatively solve challenging technical problems at scale
• Foster ownership, inclusiveness, accountability, pragmatism, and urgency in the team
• Do whatever needs to get done to help your team execute. This could mean writing code, planning a team offsite, or covering an on-call shift.

You Have

• 8+ years working on complex systems and delivering quality software
• 2+ years experience directly managing engineers (including providing mentorship, feedback, and investing in the career growth of your team members)
• Well-developed curiosity and enjoy building creative solutions to complex problems
• Previous success prioritizing urgency, excellence, and delivery in a fast-paced and high-growth environment
• A history of healthy collaboration with product managers, engineers, and other engineering managers on developing roadmaps and executing against them
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability, autonomy, and communication skills
• Experience working closely with product and engineering teams to launch ML solutions in production
• Deep knowledge of and experience with a range of machine learning algorithms and techniques
• Software engineering fundamentals and the ability to create production code when needed
• Passion for Cash App's mission of economic empowerment
