Description

The University of Washington School of Medicine invites nominations and applications for the Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Division Chief in the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (UW APM).  This is an Associate- or Full-Professor-level clinical position with protected time for administrative duties and academic endeavors.  This position will have a reporting line to the UW APM Chair and will work closely with all UW APM vice chairs, division chiefs.  This effort includes all clinical, education, research, and administrative operations within the division.

This position provides an outstanding opportunity to lead a nationally recognized division, drive clinical excellence, advance research initiatives, and foster educational growth.  The Division Chief will oversee all aspects of adult cardiothoracic anesthesia, working collaboratively with departmental and institutional leadership to ensure the highest quality of perioperative care, research, and training.

Key Responsibilities
1.    Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology.
2.    Oversee the provision of anesthetic care for adult cardiac (including robotic), thoracic, complex vascular surgeries, heart and lung transplantations, minimally invasive structural heart interventions, and advanced electrophysiology procedures.
3.    Maintain and enhance the division’s reputation for clinical excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care.
4.    Lead faculty recruitment, mentorship, and professional development efforts within the division.
5.    Foster collaborations with cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, and critical care medicine to advance multidisciplinary patient care, research, and quality improvement (QI) initiatives.
6.    Support and enhance the division’s contributions to education and training, including the ACGME-accredited Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship program and the CTA residency rotation.
7.    Promote faculty engagement in clinical and translational research and facilitate external funding opportunities.
8.    Collaborate with perioperative leadership to optimize workflow, efficiency, and resource utilization in the cardiothoracic operating rooms and non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) locations.
9.    Engage in national and international leadership activities, representing the University of Washington in professional societies, conferences, and research initiatives.
