Network Administrator

Job Function:
The Network Administrator role is responsible for the maintenance, monioring and support of data networks and related network equipment. The position seeks to ensure the uptime, performance, resources and security of the networks managed, including local, wireless and wide area networks. Typical network admin duties include network monitoring; implementing, supporting upgrading and managing switches, routers, wireless controllers, firewalls, intrusion detection systems and associated duties; security policy maintenance; troubleshooting, training or supervising staff; and offering technical support.
Goals and Objectives:
- Installation and maintenance of network gear according to documented plans and change control processes
- Administer network systems to ensure their continued operations through proactive review of logs and system consoles
- Research warnings, errors and reported issues to determine the root cause; prepare action plans; and document, test and implement solutions
- Respond to situation tickets in the assigned support queue in a timely and appropriate manner
- Succesfully meet established situation quality measures
- Participate in the "On-Call" rotation for after-hours support
- Contribute to an atmosphere of knowledge-sharing
- Consistently meet target dates for duties and assignments
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems, or business administration; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Basic information technology background
Satisfactory oral and written communications skills
Detail oriented personality
Cisco network certification or equivalent
Experience with network monitoring tools
Experience with network design, installation and configuration
