A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer
You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You'll support an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will manage projects through concept development, design review, bid package development, permitting, and construction management. You will help develop construction documents; and work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.
You will be at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, delivering project ideas from concept to construction. You take part in stakeholder and public outreach, developing feasibility studies and concept plans and prepare construction documents for innovative projects throughout the country. You participate in business development pursuits in your home region as well as across our Southeast and North American offices. Qualifications of a Project Engineer:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering (focus on transportation engineering is a plus)
- Professional Engineering license
- 6+ years of experience
- A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with a transportation focus, street design, and development of concept drawings
- Specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (MUTCD and AASHTO)
- Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation (including OpenRoads), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D)
- Experience coordinating utility, right-of-way, street lighting, traffic signals, and landscape and hardscape layout
- Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates
- Interest in multimodal transportation issues and design (specifically for bicycle, pedestrian, Safe Routes to School, Complete Streets, Vision Zero, and/or transit integration)
- Knowledge of NCDOT/GDOT Plan Development Process (PDP), preferred
