Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, this Summer, we’re looking to add an Industrial Engineering Intern (Process Flow Improvement) located in our Milpitas, CA site.

Reporting to the Sr. Industrial Engineering and Business Excellence Manager, the student will assist with daily engineering tasks while learning, collaborating and working alongside Engineers and cross-functional teams.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Engineering Intern who is currently pursuing a Master's degree to join our team. This internship will provide advanced hands-on experience in process flow improvement, diagram flow creation, process mapping, and capacity analysis. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, advanced problem-solving skills, and a passion for optimizing operations in a dynamic environment.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Conduct in-depth analyses of existing processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainable improvements.
  • Develop comprehensive flow diagrams to visualize complex processes and workflows.
  • Utilize advanced software tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart, or equivalent) to create clear and concise process maps.
  • Ensure that diagrams accurately represent both current and proposed processes, incorporating stakeholder feedback.
  • Facilitate process mapping sessions with cross-functional teams to document and analyze workflows.
  • Identify bottlenecks, redundancies, and opportunities for automation through detailed mapping exercises.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on mapped processes, ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Perform comprehensive capacity analysis to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of current operations.
  • Analyze complex data sets to determine optimal resource allocation and utilization rates.
  • Provide strategic recommendations for capacity enhancements to meet production demands and improve overall throughput.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, insights, and recommendations from process analyses.
  • Document all process improvement initiatives, methodologies used, and their outcomes for future reference.
  • Present findings to management and stakeholders, utilizing data visualization techniques to enhance understanding.

Student qualities we’re seeking for this internship assignment:

  • MS level student, currently pursuing degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related major
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) and project management principles is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.

Internship Program Requirements:

  • Available to work 40 hours/week (in-person) for 10-12 week Summer assignment
  • Currently enrolled in accredited university
  • 3.0 minimum GPA
Pay Range (Applicable to California)

$20.68 USD - $28.44 USD Hourly
