As the Sr. Indirect Tax Analyst, you will be responsible for daily indirect tax activities, monthly compliance filings, participate in tax planning, and assist with tax audits. To be successful in this role, you will need strong communication, analytical and multitasking skills; be organized and attentive to detail. You must possess a high degree of professionalism in dealing with internal and external contacts and have certain technical competencies in the areas of indirect tax and general accounting.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly Sales & Use and Canadian GST/QST tax processes, including the preparation of returns; related payments; journal entries and GL reconciliations.
  • Maintain Vertex and Avalara tax system to ensure updates, tax rates and tax calculations are working properly
  • Prepare and manage real and personal property tax filings, accruals and payments.
  • Prepare annual unclaimed property filings including payments and reconciliations
  • Maintain exemption certificate database and requests. Validate customer certificates, approve customer tax credits and review company issued exemption certificates.
  • Research, analyze and communicate proposed and enacted changes in sales/use tax laws and direct any tax matrices updates and tax system changes.
  • Work with IT, Procurement, AR/AP, Finance and other business units to improve tax systems, resolve tax disputes, and train on proper taxability of products.
  • Manage tax registrations for all North American legal entities, including review of compliance where established nexus exists.
  • Respond to state notices and work on any sales tax audits as needed.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and automation.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Finance, Accounting or related degree.

MANAGEMENT:

  • No current supervisory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
  • 5+ years of experience, preferably in a multi-jurisdictional sales/use tax environment.
  • Technical knowledge of indirect tax and accounting principles.
  • Working knowledge of Vertex and Avalara is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees and across functional groups.
  • Detail oriented, organized.
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving and computer skills including Excel and Word.
