About the job:
The Fitness Supervisor 1 is charged with assisting the Fitness Supervisor in planning, implementing and supervising fitness programs and classes while occasionally serving in a front-line lead role. The position contributes to the team by assisting with the leadership, coordination and supervision of fitness instructors as part of a highly collaborative and innovative Leadership team within BPRD Recreation Facilities. The position is responsible for coordinating with the necessary program and facility maintenance functions while working closely with the Customer Service Representatives, Facility Shift Leads and Aquatics Team to assure operations meet health and safety expectations as well as high customer expectations.
The position involves supporting all aspects of delivering the highest quality and the largest group exercise program in Central Oregon including managing day to day activities and providing leadership for daily operations including activities, program, staff, training, equipment care and responding to community and user expectations.
A day in the life:
- Ensures fitness spaces are clean, safe, and properly set up for daily programs and classes.
- Connects with instructors and facility staff to confirm coverage, troubleshoot issues, and offer on-site support.
- Teaches or assists with drop-in or registration-based fitness classes, especially in Water Exercise or Mind/Body formats.
- Reviews staff schedules, approves time entries, and adjusts coverage to maintain smooth operations.
- Provides daily guidance, real-time coaching, and corrective feedback to staff and volunteers.
- Collaborates with the Fitness Supervisor 3 to build and adjust class schedules based on attendance and trends, assign instructors and ensure appropriate coverage, and evaluate program performance and implement improvements.
- Monitors program and instructor quality using observation, attendance data, and participant feedback.
- Creates, edits, and reviews marketing content, including website text, registration-based software, Playlist content, program descriptions, social media posts, and flyers.
- Assists with the development of staff training materials, curriculum, and internal communications.
- Updates and manages class offerings in RecTrac and Zoom platforms.
- Maintains records, tracks work orders, and creates reports related to program and class delivery.
- Oversees group fitness audio equipment, including training staff on usage, reporting issues, and recommending purchases.
- Responds to participant questions, concerns, and complaints professionally and constructively.
- Resolves conflicts and challenging participant situations using sound judgment and a solution-focused approach.
- Manages monthly purchasing card reconciliation and coordinates the purchase of supplies and equipment.
- Supports community wellness initiatives through outreach and partnerships with local health providers and physical therapy offices.
- Participates in team meetings and may represent the district at community events.
- Promotes safe, inclusive environments in alignment with district policies.
- Upholds responsibilities as a Mandatory Reporter under Oregon law.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Varying times including weekends, early morning and evening shifts.
