Job Summary:

Manages, monitors, and assures that quality nutritional care is provided to all patients, including tray delivery, screening, assessment, reassessment and patient and family education in both the inpatient and outpatient setting for patients from a range of multicultural and educational backgrounds as well as throughout the lifecycle. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Five years' technical experience: Preferred
  • One year's leadership experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD): Required
  • SERV Safe Certification: Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Manages and oversees the clinical nutrition care provided to inpatient/outpatients within the hospital to include management of Nutritional Services Personnel and overseeing daily operations of the clinical nutritional care including scheduling, performance evaluations, employee engagement and employee discipline. Assists in development of policies and procedures with medical, pharmacy and nursing team members.
  • Oversees patient food service system including menu planning, compliance to policies and procedures, and regulatory agencies. Manages the coordination of creating plans for patients and families. Assesses patients to detect those who are at nutritional risk, utilizes the Nutritional Care process in providing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) via electronic documentation in Project IntelliCare as well as providing nutritional education.
  • Addresses patients/clients nutritional needs, particularly considering culture, physical capacity, individual preferences, religious background, financial resources and willingness/ability to comply. Assesses the appropriateness of TPN versus enteral feeding in consultation with team members from nursing, medical staff, pharmacy and patient's family. Screens patients for nutritional risk, with intervention activities as appropriate.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Documents patients' progress toward care plan goals in medical record. Educates patients and families about drug/nutrient interactions when indicated. Provides nutritional counseling for patients and caregivers regarding modified diets. Responds to 100% of the nutritional screening triggers identified by nursing staff within 24-hours.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
