Spring & Summer 2025 Guidance, Navigation and Control Intern - Wallops Island, VA

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Spring & Summer 2025 Guidance, Navigation and Control Intern in our Wallops Island, VA location to support our NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) program. NASA’s Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) is a sub-orbital space flight program located at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility (WFF), a part of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). NSROC provides suborbital launch vehicles, payload development and field operations support to NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. The program enables the collection of Earth, Heliophysics and Astrophysics science. 

 

This position is for students who can Intern/Co-Op for the full summer & fall duration: May 2024 to December 2024.

 

This position is on-site at Wallops Island, VA. There is no relocation/housing assistance for this role.

 

The Guidance Navigation, and Control (GNC)  Engineering Intern develops skills and principals of engineering through their support of standard tasks and special projects within the sounding rocket GNC group. 

 

Responsibilities:

• Design and utilize ground support equipment to test and validate GNC system components.
• Perform Acceptance Test Procedures on new build and existing flight hardware and Ground support Equipment.
• Perform environmental qualification testing of new sounding rocket components. 
• Develop programming applications to test and validate components utilizing software in C, C++, C# and Matlab.
• Research and develop new engineering and specialty products.
• Develop technical documentation to evaluate and check electronic systems.
• Document the results of design, analysis and testing project tasks for technical reports and meeting presentations.
• Develop electrical engineering skills, principals and application approaches through participation in mission testing activities and reviews.
• Training will be required in Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
• US Citizenship.
• 3-7 semesters of college engineering program completed.
• Enrolled at an accredited university pursuing a BS/BA or MS/MA degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• Exposure to statics, deformable bodies, mechanics of materials.
• Familiarity with at least 1 CAD software package, preferably SolidWorks.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• Rising Junior and above level student status is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with FEA software, either NASTRAN or SolidWorks Simulation.

Target Salary Range

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical pay for this position based on experience and other factors.
