Staff Data Scientist 1

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking an early-career data scientist to join the Modeling and Research Tools (MART) group in Bentonville, Arkansas. The ideal candidate should be passionate about pursuing practical solutions to complex problems, driven by using data to aid in real-world government and military operations. This position requires a self-driven individual with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will be to lead data discovery and maintenance processes, structure and organize data efficiently, conduct reliable analyses of available datasets, and present data insights to your team to support model development activities.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of professionals developing predictive mathematical and data models to solve critical problems of national importance.

What you’ll do as a Staff Data Scientist:

• Automate mining and collection processes from self-researched and government-provided data sources
• Maintain data management systems for ongoing, collaborative projects
• Pre-process structured and unstructured data
• Validate data integrity and conduct advanced statistical analysis
• Develop workflows for data science projects
• Create algorithms and data models for forecasting
• Implement machine-learning algorithms to improve data and model quality

Required qualifications:

• Master’s degree with 2 years’ or less experience, Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years’ experience, or high school diploma with 8 - 10 years’ experience
• Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
• Proven excellent attention to detail and high degree of organization
• Intermediate Python coding and database skills
• Real-world experience with data mining and management
• Advanced skills in data visualization
• US citizen with the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
• Willingness to relocate to Bentonville, Arkansas

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Data Science
• Demonstrated aptitude for self-directed problem solving
• Experience in statistical modeling
• Formal training in descriptive and predictive analytics
• Familiarity with industry-standard software stacks
• Experience with cloud computing platforms
