About Houston

 

ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team

 

As a Senior Optimization Scientist, you will combine deep technical expertise with business acumen to develop, deploy, and scale advanced optimization solutions across organizations like supply chain, commercial, and trading. You will serve as a subject matter expert in mathematical optimization, and provide leadership in decision-making, guide technological development, and drive innovation to maximize business value. You will help set the technical direction for optimization initiatives, mentor team members, and lead the integration of optimization solutions into business decision workflows.

 

What you will do

 

  • Design and implement scalable mathematical optimization models to address complex business challenges.

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify high-impact opportunities and align solutions with business objectives.

  • Provide technical leadership for optimization projects, ensuring best practices in model development and deployment.

  • Lead the integration of optimization technologies into broader systems, collaborating with engineering and IT teams.

  • Drive innovation by exploring and applying state-of-the-art optimization techniques and tools.

  • Serve as a mentor and technical resource for team members, promoting skill development and best practices.

  • Represent the organization in external technical forums, contributing to the company's reputation as an industry leader.

About you

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Ph.D. in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • 7+ years of experience in designing and deploying mathematical optimization models, with demonstrated leadership in driving business impact.

  • Expertise in linear, mixed-integer programming, optimization under uncertainty (stochastic/robust optimization), algorithm development including decomposition for large-scale optimization.

  • Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages, with experience using solvers like Gurobi/CPLEX.
