Donation Support Coordinator - Portland, OR

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Works closely with hospital staff and organ procurement organizations to obtain medical information for the assessment of potential donors. Coordinates cases with various organizations including hospitals, funeral homes, and coroner’s offices, and ensures all donor-related activities are handled professionally and accurately. Initiate and guide donor families through the paperwork required for donation by phone.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts preliminary screening of referrals for potential donation in a timely and professional manner. All necessary screening information will be obtained by reporting hospital/coroner staff and accessing electronic medical records.
2. Collects, accurately interprets, and electronically documents information regarding donor medical and social history and evaluates for donor eligibility based on current policies and regulations.
3. Screens medical information with Director and/or Medical Director as required.
4. Offers the opportunity of donation to potential donor families and completes all necessary paperwork with the legal authorizing person.
5. Facilitates the donation process for our donor families and recovery teams while providing prompt updates to funeral homes, hospital staff, coroner’s offices, and other persons as required.
6. Liaises with organ teams to collaborate the facilitation of organ, tissue, and/or eye donation.
7. Provides after-hours services for internal and external customers.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to type a minimum of 41 words per minute.
• Proficient knowledge of computers and business equipment.
• Experience in an applicable field (e.g. funeral home, emergency dispatcher, crisis hotline, call center, medical assisting, etc.), or completed coursework in health and science fields.
WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
• Must be able to meet the required physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate degree or higher.
2. Experience in a clinical health care field, tissue bank, or social work setting involving case management.
3. Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS).
4. Demonstrated ability to:
◦ Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing competing tasks and demands.
◦ Use critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize information from many sources and regulations.
◦ Handle sensitive situations with poise, tact, and confidentiality.
◦ Provide exceptional customer service.
