Cornell Retail Services is part of the division of Student & Campus Life (SCL), which inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic, and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters, including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations, including sorority and fraternity life. In a team-oriented environment, responsible for the daily receiving, shipping, and delivery of merchandise at Cornell Business Services Distribution Center. Under very general supervision, receive a high volume of packages annually, supporting more than $26 million in store sales. Ensure efficiency and accuracy in the shipping and receiving of retail merchandise for The Cornell Store and Center Sage using a variety of electronic inventory tracking systems.

Responsible for the organization of merchandise in the warehouse. Ensure that stock is labeled accurately. Maintain a clean, orderly, safe, and attractive facility. Receive and shelve textbooks and support the overstock returns process. Provide daily transportation of goods from the warehouse to retail locations. Process and coordinate special order requests for technology products. Receives very general supervision from the Manager of Finance. Takes direction from the lead person and accomplishes most daily responsibilities independently. May be assigned as lead. Assists in the orientation and training of seasonal employees and co-workers in methods, merchandise, and procedures.

Demonstrate good customer service skills and maintain excellent customer relationships by acting in a friendly, responsive, and efficient manner. Establish and maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with members of the department and the campus community. Constantly aim for efficiency and accuracy in all duties. Recommend and make improvements to processes and procedures.

DFA employees are required to attend staff development training. Employees will participate in performance evaluations, including dialogues, 360-degree surveys, assessments, etc.

This is position is part of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. The current rate of pay is listed in the collective bargaining agreement here: https://hr.cornell.edu/sites/default/files/2023-04/uaw.pdf and starts at $26.09/hour.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent. 4–5 years of related warehouse and shipping/receiving or material handling experience. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain certification for operating a forklift and stock picker within six months of hire.

  • Demonstrated experience with standard productivity software applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, email, and calendar tools. Must be able to gain proficiency in the organization’s inventory management system (Visual Ratex). Math aptitude required. Ability to analyze and evaluate materials received and to prioritize and make independent decisions in order to receive goods accurately and meet seasonal priorities.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Heavy lifting (70–250 lbs.) using appropriate hand and power tools (e.g., dolly, forklift). Period
