The Personal Lines IT organization is expanding our Rating and Pricing team as part of a major transformational project to modernize our premium calculation software. We have implemented a successful Proof of Concept and are now beginning the process of expanding our team size to support both our current capabilities and build out the new technology offering. All candidates for our team must possess a strong Agile mindset and experience, as the team will be self-organizing and iterating over the best way to deliver on a wide range of current and future state applications. Other non-negotiable skills will be an ability to ask informed questions, communicate across a diverse audience of IT and business partners, and to display comfort with challenging past conventions.

In this capacity you will be responsible for leading the engineers on the team through design, development, and implementation of new build and production support work. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Documenting technical requirements and capturing technical debt

  • Work with our business and requirements partners to accurately identify the challenges that our consumers are facing

  • Practice strong coaching and mentoring skills to uplift other members of the team and spread adoption of new technologies

  • Estimate projects and build lists that contain assumption and pre-conditions that are necessary for project success

  • Design solutions that will not only meet the business needs but also have high sustainability and maintainability for our team members

  • Champion improvements and quantify their benefits for priority against business deliverables

  • Be a good person; foster development and growth amongst all roles and disciplines on our team

  • Technologies domains include: Java, Angular, Spring Boot, Python, SQL, API development, CI/CD best practices, and automation testing

This role will be filled in a hybrid capacity, with in-office collaboration in our Columbus, OH office 2 days per week.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus on mentoring and leading others to deliver high quality, cost-effective technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Mentors and trains other team members on design techniques, tools and coding standards. 

  • Provides strategic advice on using technology to achieve goals. 

  • Drives cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams. 

  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards and optimal practices. 

  • Champions the use of DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques. 

  • Ensures continuous learning and improvement through ongoing training, practice and innovation. 

  • Manages individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables. 

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
