Project Overview:
Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and special studies and plan technical specifications for nuclear design on large projects. You will lead the design and development for nuclear engineering projects that have unique requirements, and review and approve nuclear evaluations and analyses. Your expertise will help ensure complex issues are resolved, clients are satisfied, and project needs are met
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops nuclear safety calculations, including radiological and chemical consequence calculations.
- Leads and participates in Hazard Analysis sessions.
- Develops Safety Basis documents including Preliminary Documented Safety Analyses (PDSAs), Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), and Safety Design Strategies (SDSs).
- Develops Safety Evaluations and Unreviewed Safety Question documents for changes to facilities, operations, and designs.
- Develops and interprets design criteria and specifications for most complex systems, processes, structures and equipment in a global business unit.
- Serves as consultant to engineering management, providing advice and counsel on special engineering assignments.
- Provides technical direction and assigns work to subordinate engineers and others who assist on specific assignments. Reviews and checks work.
- Interprets new or special governmental regulations engineering codes, standards, criteria and performance data.
- Participates in the development and coordination of special technical educational and training programs for clients and/or Bechtel personnel.
