About the opportunity
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health are partners in an exciting new research initiative named the ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course (Life Course Centre) which will identify the pathways through which social and economic disadvantage are perpetuated over the life course, within communities, and across generations. The Life Course Centre is comprised of an inter-disciplinary team of renowned social scientists based at four Australian Universities, NGOs, government departments and eminent international research affiliates.
We are currently seeking applications for a Research Fellow in Behavioural and Experimental Economics to work on research projects with Prof. Agnieszka Tymula. The position will be based in the School of Economics supporting a research program on the cognitive science of disadvantage which encompasses a broad range of issues in neuroeconomics, behavioural economics and cognitive psychology including mental health, youths, and risky behaviour. The successful candidate will work closely with Prof. Agnieszka Tymula to provide leadership and foster excellence in research, and further the goals of the Centre.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- contribute to the knowledge within the discipline or area of expertise
- undertake original research within discipline or area of expertise
- bring and maintain a research profile which meets University expectations and standards
- develop research collaborations which will ultimately result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialisation, improved policy or practice and/or enhancements to industry, the profession or the community
- significantly contribute to successful applications for competitive research grants and/ or funding to deliver research impact.
About you
We are looking for a Research Fellow in Economics (Behavioural and Experimental Economics) who possesses:
- completed a PhD (or will complete by June 2024) in Economics, Neuroscience, or Psychology
- evidence of a strong research interest in applied behavioural economics and experimental methods in relation to understanding social and economic disadvantage
- evidence of the ability to conduct independent research and assume responsibility for the development and completion of research papers
- demonstrated ability to work as part of a research team, and work with other members of staff to meet the aims and deadlines of a project
- a track record in research and writing and the potential to develop further research expertise through various projects.
