About the role

Job Description:

The Clinical Diet Tech provides nutrition care and support to patients under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in the clinical setting. This position interacts with clinical staff, patients, and family members to collect, analyze, and document patient nutrition information. The Clinical Diet Tech partners with the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist to help create and implement appropriate nutrition care plans.

Posting Details

  • Shift: This is a PRN position with no guaranteed hours, however we anticipate 3-5 shifts per week filling our Newborn ICU diet tech role and our adult inpatient diet tech role.  Shifts are scheduled for 4 hours but may flex depending on patient care requirements.  Shifts rotate among the clinical diet tech team, who work together to build the schedule.  The NICU tech position is staffed daily, Sun-Sat, 4 am – 8 am, and alternates between in person and remote work.  The Adult inpatient tech position is staffed Mon-Sat, 8 am – 12 pm and is in person.  Weekends and holidays are shared equally among techs.
  • The clinical diet tech team works closely with the inpatient dietitian team and shares the same office. A home computer workstation will be provided to fulfill remote NICU tech shifts

Essential Functions

  • Collects nutrition screening information and manages nutrition tasks for techs and dietitians.
  • Completes nutrition data gathering and analysis.
  • Performs calorie counts.
  • Documents patient information in the electronic health record as established by protocol.
  • Interacts and problem solves with clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Provides patient and the community with nutrition care and education, under the direction of RDN.
  • Performs various functions in the NICU under the direction of RDN.
  • Participates in department continuous quality improvement projects.
  • Provides exceptional customer service in all customer interactions.
  • Completes business functions as established by department.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational and decision-making ability.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, internet and e-mail applications.
  • Demonstrated advanced math skills.
  • Experience transcribing information quickly and accurately.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting or completion of nutrition-related college level course work, preferred.
  • Experience with nutrient analysis software, preferred.

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc.
