Position Summary

As a Senior Paralegal at Oncor reporting to the Associate General Counsel and Vice President of Litigation, you are responsible for supporting our Legal Department on a variety of matters while working collaboratively with other departments in a team-oriented environment. The bulk of your work responsibilities will relate to personal injury litigation matters including all forms of general civil litigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity with Texas procedural rules, local court rules and legal terminology.
  • Familiarity with the routine forms of civil discovery, including preparing and responding to interrogatories, requests for production and requests for admission.
  • Assist attorneys with all aspects of litigation preparations including drafting pleadings, objections, motions, subpoenas, and assisting with the preparation of other documents related to such transactions.
  • Coordinate and maintain litigation spreadsheets and database updates to track financials and provide statistics regarding lawsuits.
  • Communicate with internal personnel and external parties, including outside counsel, court personnel, and other third parties.
  • Coordinate and track status of and activities related to litigation and other types of civil litigation to maintain, update transaction tracking, organize filing system for management of records.
  • Research, analyze, and summarize information and material related litigation.
  • Work with attorneys to prepare for deposition, hearing and/or trial and other related meetings and proceedings in related litigation.
  • Maintain calendars; coordinate meetings and travel arrangements; complete expense reports.
  • Oversee and manage the intake process for all documents and reports to Oncor’s insurance carriers.
  • Calculate and calendar deadlines, schedule meetings and depositions, and process incoming mail and emails.
  • Assist in the preparation and submitting of periodic status reports to Oncor’s internal stakeholders. 
  • Other duties as assigned when required.

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft Suite of office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint (PPT), and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to interface effectively with personnel at many different levels throughout the company and externally.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter enabling the management of responsibilities with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficient with the Texas e-Filing system and Courts’ websites.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience in a well-established law firm and/or corporate legal department or an Associate’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in a well-established law firm and/or corporate legal department is required
  • 6 or more years of paralegal experience is preferred. 
  • Paralegal certificate preferred but not required.
