The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco (CZ Biohub SF) (https://www.czbiohub.org/sf/) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. The Opportunity
The Software Engineering team at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub SF functions at the intersection of engineering and cutting-edge scientific research. We work on a wide range of software projects, from core internal infrastructure tools, to innovative data visualization methods and novel computer vision models. We are seeking a full-stack software engineer to help develop and maintain our internal and public-facing web applications. These apps include public web portals used by thousands of scientists all over the world to access datasets like Tabula Sapiens (tabula-sapiens-portal.ds.czbiohub.org) and OpenCell (opencell.czbiohub.org). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to ambitious, world-class scientific research projects in a highly collaborative and well-funded scientific environment.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and test existing web applications and developing new ones
- Manage deployment of internal and external facing web applications
- Create and maintain documentation associated with the web applications
- Effectively communicate with stakeholders about requirements, timelines, etc.
- Facilitate clear communication between multiple teams
What You'll Bring
Essential –
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1 year experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript and Python programming languages
- Experience with modern web development frameworks and technologies for both frontend and backend
- Experience with UNIX/Linux environments
- Familiarity with professional software development best practices (testing, documentation, version control, CI/CD pipelines)
- Be collaborative, team-oriented, and have excellent written and oral communication skills
Nice to have -
- Prior experience with React, npm, Django, nginx
- Prior experience with cloud based platforms (like AWS, GCP, etc.)
- Contributions to open-source software projects
- Experience with high performance computing environments
- Experience with biomedical applications and scientific research contexts
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network requires all employees, contractors, and interns, regardless of work location or type of role, to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, including a booster vaccine dose, if eligible, by their start date. Compensation
- $92,000 - $126,500
New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity.
