About the role

Variety Wholesalers Trucking Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the schedules of truck drivers. Ensuring timely pickup and delivery of goods by acting as a communication hub between drivers, clients, and suppliers. In addition, scheduling deliveries, monitoring routes, and resolving any issues that may arise during transport, all while maintaining accurate documentation of shipments and driver logs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

  • Receive & Dispatch: Answer calls (emergency/non-emergency), create work orders, and dispatch appropriate field staff or vehicles.
  • Coordinate & Route: Manage daily schedules, assign jobs, optimize routes, and adjust in real-time for delays or issues.
  • Communication: Act as liaison between customers, field teams, and management, relaying vital info via radio/phone/computer.
  • Monitor & Track: Use mapping software and systems to monitor unit locations and status.
  • Problem-Solve: Address urgent issues, resolve conflicts, and provide solutions calmly.
  • Maintain Records: Log calls, update databases, and keep detailed records of operations.  

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Skills: Excellent communication, multitasking, problem-solving, organization, decision-making, and ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Tech: Proficiency with radio, phone systems, dispatch software (TMW, People Net, JDA), and mapping tools.
  • Education: High school diploma is often required; some roles prefer logistics/related degrees.
