Position Summary

Airbus U.S. is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Senior Electrical Engineer to develop solutions for satellite electrical power subsystems. We're looking for candidates who can bring exceptional engineering skills and strong experience in aerospace programs to the team.

Position Responsibilities

The Senior Electrical Engineer's primary responsibility will be the successful design, qualification, manufacturing, and testing of solar arrays for Airbus U.S. satellites. The secondary responsibility will be contributing to technical management of either battery or power conditioning and distribution equipment. This engineer will be involved in the full lifecycle of development, from requirements definition through operations. Being at the cutting edge of space technology, we need someone who is eager to learn, grow, and take on new and potentially unfamiliar challenges. There is no shortage of fascinating problems to solve. 

The Senior Electrical Engineer will support moderate and complex assignments, under the leadership of the Power & Propulsion Engineering Manager and other senior Electrical Power Subsystem Engineers.

Flight Hardware Technical Management 60%

• Analyze, design, develop, test, and/or overseeing production of power system components to include:
  • Solar Arrays (primary responsibility).
  • Batteries (secondary responsibility).
  • Power distribution equipment (secondary responsibility).
• Lead integrated product team(s) to oversee suppliers and review supplier deliverables, including test reports, analyses (such parts stress, worst case, radiation effects), and resolutions to anomalies
• Ensure compatibility with various expected mission environments (SWaP, radiation, lifetime, AO, etc.)
• Support the development of subsystem level requirements and requirement flow-down to the various components and parts as necessary - in all phases of the development lifecycle with particular emphasis on Design for Cost/Design for Manufacturability/Design for Test approaches
• Ensure the maximum reuse of the existing Airbus heritage products and if necessary, identify need for modification
• Ability to drive multiple design activities (programs or mission) - could lead to spacecraft, payload, satellite bus, and/or launch integration activities
• Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of engineering and integration activities

Electrical Power Subsystem Design and Analysis 20%

• Support power and energy balance analysis for flight programs
• Support flight program milestones with growth potential to become lead Electrical Power Subsystem engineer on some flight programs
• Electrical Power Subsystem Architecture Development 10%
• Support subsystem architecture trade studies and requirements development to meet future mission needs
• Revise subsystem and unit specifications for new mission and customer needs
• Support make-vs-buy trades and supplier selections

Additional Responsibilities 10%

• Perform necessary power system engineering activities to build, to maintain, and to evolve the Airbus spacecraft products.
