Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel and AVP of Internet2, the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Attorney helps Legal Services achieve its departmental goals of effectively and efficiently managing the legal affairs of Internet2.
Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Day-to-day legal support and advice to business divisions regarding technology, privacy and cybersecurity issues.
● Provide guidance on compliance with data privacy and cybersecurity laws, regulations, and contractual terms.
● Review, negotiate, and draft commercial contract terms, privacy notices, policies, and standards.
● Provide legal support and guidance in response to potential data privacy and cybersecurity incidents.
● Participation in data governance and cross-divisional groups.
● Provide guidance on legal requirements related to new technologies, such as generative AI.
● Track and guide compliance with evolving laws, regulations, litigation, and enforcement trends.
● Clearly and concisely communicate strategic legal counseling to business teams.
● Establish highly collaborative relationships with business teams to provide cross-divisional support for the organization.
● Help advance business objectives by serving as a trusted legal advisor
Required Qualifications:
● 5 or more years of relevant substantive legal experience.
● JD from an accredited U.S. law school.
● Deep knowledge of privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially those relevant to technology and the cloud.● Experience working with cross-divisional teams and projects, including geographically diverse teams.
● Licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia or other jurisdiction, as applicable.
● Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with professional colleagues at all levels within the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Privacy or compliance accreditation.
● Knowledge of privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines relevant to higher education.
● CIPP/CIPM or comparable privacy certificationAs a full-time employee, you will be eligible to participate in Internet2’s employee benefits program effective on your start date in accordance with the terms and conditions of each plan. The salary range for this role is$120,000 - 140,000 annually.
