Classroom/Resource Teacher
Job Summary:
1. Responsible for planning and implementing Positive Behavior
Interventions to meet the complex behavior needs of students enrolled
in the New Beginnings Academy.
2. Trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and physically able to
implement restraint techniques.
3. Developing IEPs for students enrolled in the New Beginnings Academy.
4. Providing direct instruction based on WV College and Career Readiness
Standards
5. Developing Behavior Intervention Plans for students enrolled in the New
Beginnings Academy.
6. Consultation with parents and professionals
7. Responsible for planning and implementing designated co-curricular
activities and/or programs at the school such as fairs, award programs,
and field trips.
8. Strong working/communication skills with students, parents, and peers
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of
Behavior Analysis, Support, Compliance and Equity Programs, or Director of Early
Childhood, and Administrator of Special Services.
Qualifications:
1. A valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education and/or Multi-
Catergorical Mental Retardation or Mental Impairment, Specific Learning
Disabilities,and Behavioral Disorders Including Autism OR Multi-Categorical and BD
Including Autism. Applicant must be willing to obtain additional endorsement
(Elementary Education or Multi-Catergorical) within the first year. Autism
certfication must also be obtained, if not currently certified.

3. If a fully certified candidate does not apply, those eligible for a permit will
be considered. Applicant must provide documentation form the college
showing their eligibility.
Working Conditions:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Have mobility, strength, and dexterity to be able to lift or restrain a
student; interact at each student's maturity level and size; and
retrieve students who wander and/or run from the group.
2. Be able to impart information and orally communicate with students,
families and others
3. Be able to understand and respond to oral communications and
directions.
4. Be able to read, write, understand and respond to written
instructions, communications and materials
5. When supervising a group of students, have the capacity to ensure
the safety of, observe, supervise and assess all situations involving a
student, a group of students and co-workers.
