About the role

Description

The Department of American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an Advanced Assistant (tenure-track) or Associate (tenured) position in carceral studies, medical humanities, or environmental humanities/sustainability studies. We seek an interdisciplinary scholar with an historical sensibility and training/experience in ethnography, literary studies, and/or critical quantitative methods. Duties include research, teaching, and service to the department, college, and university. Our department is seeking a colleague who can teach innovative courses, both broadly general and on specialized topics in American Studies. Responsibilities will include teaching large in-person courses such as “Main Currents of American Culture to 1865” or “Main Currents of American Culture since 1865,” which partially fulfill the state legislative requirement in US history. We welcome imaginative pedagogy that spurs student engagement and critical analysis.
