Summary

Participates in implementing, analyzing, maintaining and provides high-level technical support for a large, complex technical infrastructure to ensure maximum system reliability and availability. Reviews current and future trends in networking technology and suggests ways to utilize this technology to achieve enterprise goals. Serves as the primary IST technical and application resource and has authority for the escalation of problems.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.  The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below.  In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

• Implementation and support of the technical infrastructure including network, systems, applications and any other related components

• Primary overseer of day-to-day operations with responsibility for making technical and application related decisions

• Monitor and assess projects or upgrades that may impact the IST infrastructure, systems, or data security

• Works with IST leadership to coordinate discovery and observation visits

• Assist in defining, documenting, and implementing system upgrade strategies for minimal disruptions

• Assists in development, documentation, administration and monitoring of daily local area network operations, which may include system backups, disk and printer management, email administration, system security, and system/application performance

• Identify software applications, network, and hardware malfunctions and take appropriate action to resolve issues ensuring data and system integrity.

• Escalates any problems to the appropriate IST staff that are beyond the ability of the Lead Technical Analyst

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training: 

• Associate degree required (preferred in computer or communications related field) OR 4 years computer or communications experience in lieu of degree required

• Microsoft, CompTIA Network+, or Cisco certification (or equivalent) required

• Valid North Carolina driver's license required

Work Experience: 

• 4 years’ experience as a Systems or Technical Analyst or equivalent required

• 4 years of progressive responsibility that demonstrates familiarity with all aspects relating to technical infrastructure practices required

• 1 year healthcare experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 

• Working knowledge in the following areas:

  • Workstation and Server Operating Systems (Microsoft preferred)

  • Workstation and Server hardware (HP preferred)

  • Computing accessories such as network printers, scanners, barcode readers, etc.

  • Voice, Data, and Wireless Networking Infrastructure (Cisco preferred)

  • Networking protocols to include TCP/IP, SNA, LAT and DECnet

  • Wireless communications utilizing IEEE specifications (802.11a/b/g/n)

  • Computing infrastructure test equipment such as cable testers, network traffic analyzers, etc.

  • Current technological developments/trends in area of expertise

• Excellent documentation skills

• Ability to think logically and able to communicate effectively with technical personnel, as well as with other staff who may have no technical computer background

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a positive attitude

• Ability to support the organizational strategic goals and initiatives is required

• Self-motivated with the ability to think creatively and make sound decisions

• Ability to accomplish tasks with little supervision is required

Physical Requirements: 

• Ability to work a flexible schedule

• Hearing and verbal ability to interact professionally with staff, managers and vendors

• Visual acuity to deal with computerized display
