What role you will play in our team

Imperial Nanticoke Refinery is recruiting an Indigenous student for an intern position. You will be assigned to a specific position and department based on your degree discipline, interests, skills, knowledge and experience, as well as Imperial’s business needs. You will report to one of the following teams onsite: Process Engineering, Safety and Environment, Reliability Engineering or Applications and Systems Engineering.

What you will do

 

Responsibilities depending on the work group:


Environmental and Safety:

  • Execute environmental and safety field work.  Examples include fence line monitoring, water sampling and leak detection and repair program
  • Participate in data collection, entry and analysis 
  • Develop or update procedures related to safety and/or environment work
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement as it relates to the development and implementation of environmental and safety programs

 

Process Engineering:

  • Collaborate with operations, reliability, and automation engineers to support safe and reliable unit operation.
  • Identify, develop, and implement operational and facility improvements focusing on safety, reliability, economics, and sustainability.
  • Communicate the status of unit operations, improvement opportunities, and operating costs to various stakeholders.

 

Applications and Systems Engineering:

  • Support identifying, implementing, and maintaining basic process control applications.
  • Assist with day-to-day monitoring and support for existing applications on process units.
  • Develop new applications and maintain the performance of existing ones.
  • Support software/database requirements.

 

Reliability Engineering:

  • Support can be in any of the equipment engineering areas supported by the reliability group: fixed equipment (piping, pressure vessels and heat exchangers); machinery (pumps, compressors and blowers); fired heaters (boilers and furnaces); Instrumentation; Electrical; and Analyzers.
     

About you

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent technical degree from a Canadian Accredited Institution in Chemical, Process Control, Computer Science, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

 

  • To be eligible, candidates must be a member of a local First Nation community
  • Commitment to safety.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and results-oriented individuals who enjoy working with people and achieving superior results.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team-based environment.
  • Previous industry experience is beneficial but not essential.

 

 

Start date: May, 2025

 

Work term: 4 months
