Job Summary:

Ascot’s Finance team is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with strong expertise in account reconciliations and the month-end close process. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can manage multiple priorities, deliver accurate financial data under tight deadlines, and contribute to ongoing process improvements. A thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, and statutory reporting is essential for success in this role. This role will reside in our MS office with a hybrid work schedule. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and review complex account reconciliations, including bank accounts, intercompany transactions, accruals, prepaids, and other balance sheet accounts.

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries for cash, revenue, expenses, accruals, and other adjustments.

  • Ensure timely and accurate execution of month-end and year-end close activities.

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies and variances in account balances.

  • Maintain comprehensive and well-organized supporting documentation for all assigned accounts.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Claims, Reinsurance, Payroll, and outsourced partners to resolve accounting issues.

  • Enhance and document close and reconciliation procedures to strengthen internal controls and support audit readiness.

  • Support external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, journal entry listings, and other required documentation.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and automation.

  • Assist in the preparation and filing of statutory financial statements, including footnote disclosures; coordinate with Treasury, Tax, Legal, and external advisors as needed.

  • Serve as the primary contact for the incoming check distribution and reconciliation process for US offices, ensuring accurate booking of entries.  

  • Assist with additional ad hoc projects as required.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.

  • Prior experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry is preferred. 

  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and general ledger accounting; experience with statutory reporting is a plus.

  • Proven ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains), Sun Systems, or other financial platforms.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, outsourced partners, and external stakeholders.

  • Must be positive, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Highly customer-centric both internally and externally.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
