We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Engineer – Physical Engineer – Standards Innovation Services

 

This position will be filled commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education:

This role is fully competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter. Second level position in the engineering series provides engineering support in designated company area, or specific engineering discipline. Performs and/or reviews engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Provides cost analysis as needed and develops recommendation based on calculations (e.g. cost for equipment upgrade) for management review. Distinguished from Associate Engineer by increased complexity in application of engineering skills required. Under direction of supervisor or work leader, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting and applying standard or well-defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables.

Long Description

Engineer – Physical Engineer – Standards Innovation Services

A Physical Engineer on the Standards Innovation Services team would be responsible for:

  • Design Physical Design Standards utilizing 3D Modeling software (AutoDesk Inventor) and integrate associated metadata into data management environment (AutoDesk Vault).  Develop 3D models, parts and assemblies in addition to 2D equivalent drawing packages utilizing AutoDesk AutoCad
  • Develop specifications and technical documentation and perform calculations to support substation designs
  • Provide standard application support, design customization, and development of new design applications (i.e. 765KV, 345KV, etc.)
  • Collaborate with ET Engineering Standards Partner Teams (Substation, System Protection, and Transmission Line Standards) to develop standards and processes
  • Establish an industry presence with Substation Physical 3D design and Innovative Solutions through various venues (i.e. IEEE, Substation Design Solution (SDS) Consortium, AutoDesk University, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

2+ years of relevant engineering experience;

  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals
  • Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position   
  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives
  • Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.)
  • Planning, organizational and project management skills   
  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills  
  • Effective decision making skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices
  • Equally effective working independently or in a team environment 
  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks

 

Education Requirements

Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):

Bachelor’s In Engineering

Preferred Discipline(s): Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Systems Engineering
