The Job Duties of this position are able to be performed from our NY Campus, CA Campus or Remote.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  The recruiter can share more information about what the anticipated hiring rate/salary would be based upon your specific qualifications during the selection process.  The hiring range will be modified based on the location of applicants.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Instructional Design Generalist provides dedicated instructional technology, LMS course-building, and course quality support for the School of Graduate & Professional Studies (SGPS). This position supports the development, maintenance, and delivery of online and professional studies courses in Moodle, Brightspace, and related instructional platforms. Working under the direction of the Instructional Design & Academic Operations Manager, the Instructional Design Generalist helps build course content, troubleshoot LMS and course resource issues, support faculty in navigating course platforms, and conduct pre-launch quality checks to ensure courses are functional, accessible, and ready for students. This position requires a working understanding of instructional design principles for online learning, including accessibility, usability, functionality, and basic alignment practices.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, update, and maintain SGPS course content in Moodle, Brightspace, and related learning platforms.
  • Create and revise course shells, modules, units, activities, assignments, quizzes, pages, resources, and other LMS components based on direction from Instructional Design & Operations Manager.
  • Upload, format, organize, and test instructional materials, including text, images, video links, documents, rubrics, templates, embedded tools, and external learning resources.
  • Support course copy, course refresh, and course launch preparation processes across SGPS programs.
  • Assist with user access, course visibility, release conditions, completion tracking, and basic LMS configuration as directed.
  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 troubleshooting support for faculty, staff, and students related to Moodle, Brightspace, and course-based instructional technologies.
  • Apply foundational instructional design principles to support clear, organized, accessible, and functional online course delivery.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of reusable templates, rubrics, course pages, activity formats, instructional resources, and course-build job aids.
  • Identify and recommend possible improvements to course design, course objectives, program learning outcome alignment, student navigation, or resource organization.
  • Review course materials to help ensure alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) accessibility standards.
  • Conduct pre-launch quality checks of instructional materials, course links, embedded media, assignments, rubrics, quizzes, due dates, completion settings, and student-facing instructions.
  • Provide just-in-time assistance to faculty on basic LMS tasks such as locating course materials, editing pages, viewing assignments, managing course resources, reviewing student submissions, and understanding course navigation.
  • Organize and maintain instructional assets and shared resource libraries.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

           

          REQUIRED QUALIFCATIONS

          Education:

          • Bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Information Systems, or a related field.

          Experience:

          • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience administering, building, or supporting a learning management system; Moodle and/or Brightspace preferred.

           

          PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS

          • Experience in higher education, professional education, continuing education, certificate programs, or adult online learning environments.
