Job Description
Apex Clean Energy is seeking an Accounting Manager to support all aspects of project accounting and financial reporting for Apex’s utility-scale renewable energy projects. This role will focus on accounting for projects in the operations phase: preparing budgets and monitoring costs, determining accounting positions (derivatives, ASC 842 and 606), financial statements and HLBV accounting preparation, manage tax reporting and compliance, audits and investment tracking. Further, this role would support Asset Management and corporate level activities and internal controls.
This position is central to our projects and critical to tackling challenging and complex accounting and business tasks, providing fiscally responsible accounting practices for each of our project entities. Reporting to our Asset Management Operations Controller and supervising an accounting team, this role will be joining an innovative and nimble accounting group and be immersed in the full life cycle process of utility-scale wind, solar, storage and other renewable projects. Working to manage project level financial statements within the operations process, you’ll act as the accounting connection between internal teams and stakeholders.

The right candidate will be a hands-on, hard-working team player who can jump in and support projects from a variety of angles. The Accounting Manager position requires equally excellent communication and technical skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure, multitask, and be flexible about shifting priorities. A passion for renewable energy is a must.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Managing a group of accountants for multiple renewable energy projects and report the results to Managers and Owners
- Develop and lead the project accounting practices supporting the interface between FP&A, Accounting, and Commercial Management
- Set up project cost and financial reports, aligning with Operations, Finance & Accounting
- Prepare and insure payment of debt service and timely reporting with Lenders
- Review project level financial statements
- Review/prepare consolidated, multi-entity financial statements
- Review and approve project coding
- Review and approve account reconciliations
- Working with Asset Managers, review and approve budgets and forecast with emphasis on cash flows, IRR’s and flip dates
- Working with tax preparers, complete and finalize returns, reconcile to financial models
- Lead and resolve accounting issues to obtain unqualified project audits
- Working with Operations Controller, prepare Accounting Policies and Procedures and implementation memos
- Analyze and report accounts receivable status and collection, lead resolution with Asset Manager
- Ensure billing and reporting requirements deadlines are met by accountants
- Know and understand cash positions, approve weekly AP payments
- Analyze and review actual costs and other accounting transactions to support monthly reporting and forecasts with comparison to budget
