Our Chief Investment Officer (CIO) team is responsible for the overall asset allocation and portfolio management of General Account assets supporting our policyholder liabilities across various lines of business. In addition to managing the overall portfolio, the CIO team works with our Life & Retirement business teams to develop the investment strategy to support their new business growth objectives. The CIO team is also responsible for articulating the overall investment strategy and risk positioning to key stakeholders such as BoD, regulators, and rating agencies.

The CIO team is seeking an AVP to help support alignment of assets with liabilities, integration of the line of business asset tagging process with new operating model (including Aladdin interface), along with helping to execute on other portfolio initiatives and ad-hoc analysis across the core Life and Retirement business’ product lines.  This role requires investment and accounting knowledge with leadership and project management experience, while also comfortable stepping in to conduct analysis as required.  Being able to manage multiple projects under time pressure is expected.  The successful candidate will need to be able to present complex ideas/findings effectively to management and key stakeholders.  In this role, you will:

  • Lead projects and workflows related to portfolio management and line of business tagging, including the transition to a new operating model, ensuring the CIO team can continue supporting the core Life and Retirement business teams.
  • Be required to manipulate large data sets and reconcile various heterogeneous sources of investment, portfolio, and liability information.
  • Conduct actual to intended line of business new purchase allocation analysis and recommend corrective action plans for exceptions / discrepancies found.
  • Partner and collaborate across asset management, finance, treasury, actuarial, and accounting teams on a continual basis to leverage and rationalize investment information.
  • Identify and develop process improvement opportunities to automate and streamline the daily as well as month end line of business work streams.
  • Respond to ad hoc issues / requests and participate in special projects as needed.

What we are looking for

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to understand and write complex formulas and functions.
  • Knowledge of PowerPoint, MicroStrategy and Power Pivot/BI tools a plus.
  • Experience in programming such as Microsoft Access, VBA, Python and/or working with Information Technology is a plus.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in financial institutions, understanding of insurance company assets and liabilities, asset allocation, and analytical background.
  • MBA/CFA, or working toward is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced multi-company, multi-system, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
