About the Role:
The Staff Accountant I supports the accounting department by performing a variety of accounting tasks, including reviewing, researching, reconciling, and processing financial transactions. This role requires knowledge of accounting principles, attention to detail, and accuracy in maintaining financial records in accordance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Employees may also perform additional duties as needed to support departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner
  • Maintain organized records, files, and audit documentation.
  • Prepare reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end closing activities in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review and verify accounting data for accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Respond to internal inquiries professionally while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Core Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • Computerized accounting system and word processing experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience preferred.
  • Fund accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.

Essential Competencies:
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Strong accounting knowledge and ability to pass accounting skills testing required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, and standard office equipment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and respect when working with diverse individuals.
  • Proactively identifies process improvements and supports a positive team environment.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality
