Your Opportunity

New Relic is seeking a Security Automation Engineer to join our Information Security Team and contribute to our Security Automation and Tools team. This team focuses on automating security tasks to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of security operations.

This role will safeguard New Relic's digital assets by automating security processes and strengthening our overall security stance. The position helps in optimizing security operations, minimizing manual work, and guaranteeing that our security measures are both efficient and effective. 

Security Automation Engineers apply their knowledge of scripting, automation tools, and security principles to develop and deploy solutions that defend against emerging threats. What You’ll Do

  • Develop, test, and deploy security automation scripts, tools, and workflows.
  • Integrate various security tools and platforms using APIs to enable automated data collection, analysis, and response.
  • Automate repetitive security tasks, such as vulnerability scanning, log analysis, and incident triage.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) playbooks.
  • Collaborate with security analysts, engineers, and other IT teams to identify automation opportunities and gather requirements.
  • Monitor the performance and health of automation tools and processes, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for developed automation solutions and processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest security threats, automation technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate and cultivate relationships with IT, Compliance, Product Legal & Privacy, and non-engineering teams on multi-functional work streams and projects.

 

Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • ​​Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical education and experience.
  • Proven experience in a security or software development role.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Python, Ruby, and/or Go.
  • Understanding of fundamental security concepts (e.g., networking, operating systems, encryption, authentication, incident response).
  • Familiarity with APIs (REST, SOAP) and data formats (JSON, XML, CSV).
  • Familiarity with the following: 
    • Source code and configuration security reviews
    • SIEM, CSPM, CWPP, EDR, and SOAR technologies (Elastic, Sentinel One, Wiz Crowdstrike, Tines, etc)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to draft/maintain clear and concise documentation.

 

Nice-to-have:

    • Relevant security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, GSEC, SSCP).
    • Experience with SOAR platforms (e.g., Splunk, Palo Alto Cortex XSOAR, Tines, Sentinel One).
    • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their security services.
    • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
    • Understanding of DevOps/DevSecOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Deep understanding of cloud security automation in environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
    • Familiarity with infrastructure orchestration, such as Terraform, Chef, or Ansible.
    • 1 year working with modern container technologies and/or Kubernetes is a bonus.

The pay range below represents a reasonable estimate of salary for the listed position. This role may be eligible for the corporate bonus plan. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related factors such as an applicant’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
