Position Summary

The Extra Help Medical Technologist II will assist Pathology Laboratories Microbiology in preparation for College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection and review Microbiology Laboratory standard operating procedures. The Extra Help Medical Technologist II will support the Microbiology laboratory meet regulatory and operational priorities and review compliance requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing the Microbiology Laboratory for College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspections, ensuring readiness of documentation, workflows, and quality practices.
  • Perform comprehensive reviews and updates of Microbiology Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure alignment with current regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Evaluate laboratory processes for compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other applicable regulatory requirements, identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions.
  • Support quality management initiatives by conducting internal audits, documentation reviews, and quality assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to prioritize operational and regulatory objectives, ensuring timely completion of compliance-related tasks.
  • Provide technical expertise in microbiology testing procedures, quality control, and laboratory standards to support staff and leadership.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA) following audit findings or compliance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records, logs, and documentation required for regulatory inspections and internal quality reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols, infection control policies, and biohazard handling procedures.
  • Support staff training and competency assessments related to updated SOPs, compliance requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Act as a resource to laboratory personnel regarding regulatory standards, inspection preparedness, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and track progress of inspection readiness activities, providing status updates to leadership as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and regulatory excellence within the Microbiology laboratory.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
