About You and This Role:

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Line Crew Technologist to join the Power Distribution group at the Freeport, Texas location.

You will have to ensure safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the 345kV, 138kV, 69kV, 15kV, and 2.4kV electrical distribution system throughout all of Dow Freeport. You will on occasion support hurricane recovery efforts at other Dow sites on the Gulf Coast.

 Responsibilities:

  • The job focuses primarily maintaining Dow Freeport’s Power Distribution system and all its assets.
  • Writing detailed/quality job procedures
  • Maintaining red tag isolations (serve as Electrical Safe Work Permit holder)
  • Provide the site with Subject matter Experience about electrical distribution including (pole line equipment, transmission lines, cutouts, and pole mount transformers)
  • Must understand and update electrical one-line drawings.
  • Work with Contractor Line Crew i.e. operate bucket truck, pole line work, etc.
  • Provide electrical Hot Work support/work for department and contractor line crew activities.
  • Be involved with the teams within Power Distribution
  • Safely facilitating major equipment overhauls
  • Repairing cable splices and terminations, often from an elevated platform or lift
  • Ordering and procuring parts for upcoming electrical outages and maintenance.
  • Managing purchase orders and electrical spare parts inventory.
  • Assisting in bucket truck fleet maintenance.
  • This candidate will need a very strong safety focus, be responsible for identifying and communicating hazards around transmission lines and substations and will need to have excellent people skills which will allow them to effectively interface with peers and leaders across Texas Operations.
  • This job will require a significant amount of driving within a 15-mile radius to the various electrical facilities around Texas Operations, so safe driving skills are a must.
  • Selected candidate will be expected to serve as a member of the department hurricane duty personnel and will be on continuous 24/7 call out status within a 45-minute maximum response time of the site regarding off hour electrical distribution system issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.

One Additional education requirement must be met:

  • An electrical certification or license OR An associate degree or higher in Electrical and Instrumentation.

  • Must have a current, valid drivers license and the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Drivers License within the first few months of employment.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays, if required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, if required.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Physical Requirements:

Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
  • Able to stand 50% of the time.
  • Lift a minimum of 55lbs.

Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years of line crew experience.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Be a self-starter.
  • Experience in high voltage switching and isolation.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead many teams for major equipment overhauls.
  • Maintenance experience with high voltage power distribution equipment including, but not limited to:
  • Transformers up to 560MVA and up to 345kV.
  • Insulated power cables, power cable splices and terminations up to 345kV.
  • Transmission lines and towers up to 345kV.
  • Oil filled, Vacuum, and SF6 insulated circuit breakers from 2.4kV to 345kV.
  • Switchgear bus systems up to 345kV.
  • Capacitor banks up to 138kV.
